When you are hungry or parched from a long day on the trail, the friendly community of Evansville (half-way between Alexandria and Fergus Falls) has several ways to help you satisfy your needs.
If your water bottle is empty, you can stop by the historic fountain on the east end of town to fill your bottle free of charge. Evansville was voted the best tasting water in Minnesota in 2020. (The new water drinking fountains are scheduled to be installed in the spring/summer of 2021.)
While in town, take a few minutes to check out the Evansville Historical Foundation and Pioneer Village, a representation of how people have lived in west central Minnesota over the past 100+ years.
In the heart of the community, and just off the trail’s edge, there are several businesses where you can stop for food or beverages. Schatzi’s for breakfast or lunch, Backroads for a burger or an ice cold beer, and the Evansville Meat Market for excellent snacks.
Other businesses that may be of interest while passing through town would be two convenience stores/gas stations, these are Hiway Amoco and Lon’s Spur. Evansville Hardware is a full-line Hardware Hank franchise and also has an extensive line of sporting goods. The Main Street Market is a new 24-hour grocery store concept that will be opening in the summer of 2021.
Another point of interest would be the Evansville Art Center. A local non-profit group whose mission is to provide access to the arts for all ages. This includes music, photography, poetry, pottery, carving, and many other offerings from local artists.
All of these businesses are within one block of the trail. We hope that you enjoy the beautiful scenery and friendly people while passing through our community.
